‘Ex Machina – The Ava Session’ is an adaption of the interview sessions from the motion picture ‘Ex Machina’ by Alex Garland. The film revolves around an interview with the AI humanoid Ava, where Caleb, the interviewee, must determine if the AI passes the turing test, even if he already knows Ava is a robot.
Initially created as an interactive film experience for a study about altering the edit of a film affected by brain activity. The project gained traction due to its clever use of LED background projection despite ofthe ‘no budget’ production.
The background projection was done on 9 large TV screens stacked close together. The 3D scene and system used for the projection was developed by the team and included state of the art parallax and interactivel ighting, as one of the first ever in the Nordic countries.
